-5(1x + 4) = 20

-5(1x+4)=20
-5 * 1x = -5x
-5 * 4 = -20
so:
-5x - 20 = 20
If you can't finish it, you need teaching...see your teacher.

-5(1x+4) = 20
Divide by -5
1x+4 = -4
Subtract 4
1x = -8
Don't write the coeficient when it is '1'
x = -8
