How would I do this problem?

. . .6y-6 divided by 8y^2-8

I came up with -1/1y

How? What did you get when you factored the numerator and denominator? What common factors did you cancel? (Of course, one can NEVER cancel terms.)

Please reply with all of your steps, beginning with your factorization. Thank you.
