x^2 - 4x - 5 = 0

2) solve using quadratic formula

x^2 - 4x - 5 = 0
 
solve using quadratic equation ?
x<sup>2</sup> - 4x - 5 = 0
(x - 5)(x + 1) = 0


using the quadratic formula ...
a = 1, b = -4, c = -5
\(\displaystyle \L x = \frac{4 \pm \sqrt{(-4)^2 - 4(1)(-5)}}{2(1)}\)
