Find the area of a circle with diameter 2sqrt(3) cm.

I did the following:

. . .A = pi r^2
. . .2sqrt(3) = 3.464101615
. . .2sqrt(3) / 2 = radius
. . .radius = 1.73205081

. . .A = 3.14 * 1.73205081^2
. . .A = 3.14 * 3.000000008
. . .A = 9.42000003
. . .A = 9.4

Is this correct? Thank you!

You did a lot of rounding, and made this much harder than it needs to be, but you did eventually arrive at the approximate solution. However, your instructor is probably expecting the "exact" answer:

. . . . .d = 2sqrt[3]

. . . . .r = d/2 = sqrt[3]

. . . . .A = (pi)(r2

. . . . .A = (pi)(sqrt[3])2

. . . . .A = (pi)(3)

. . . . .A = 3(pi)

Since 3pi is approximately 9.42477796, your answer is correct, within the allowances of round-off error.
