Without knowing the base on the "113", I'm not sure how one could evaluate the veracity of the equation.

As for "how it's done", I would guess that you are referring to multiplying in octal. There are probably many ways, but one would be to convert first to decimal, then multiply, and then convert the product to whatever base you're supposed to use for your answer.
