Determine the inverse of the function f (x) =(4x + 1)/3x

I can't figure out how to do this because I always end up with 2 y's

Re: inverse function

Could you elaborate on this for me? Are you stuck at a spot or is your answer simply wrong? If the answer is wrong please show the work and i can assist you.

You must remember your algebra. Therre is no reason to get 2 'y's unless you are making an error. In any case, we cannot tell where you wander off unless you show your work.

The distributive property of multiplication over addition is like this: a*b + a*c = a*(b+c) -- See how 2 'a's turn into one 'a'?

Re: inverse function

I get two y's also, but that means I'm not done. Get the two terms containing y on the same side of the equation and the remaining term on the other side. Then factor out the y and divide both sides by the binomial coefficient of y. That should do it.
