I'm trying to correct my son's work but I am not very good with fractions. These are the problems I have issue with:
-X =9
6
1= -Z
9 7

Is that -x = 9 / 6 and -z = 1 / 9 ?? As example, a / b means a divided by b

You can multiply both sides of an equation by the same non-zero number and the truthfulness of the equation does not change. If there are fractions in the equation, one approach is to multiply both sides of the equation by the least common denominator of all the fractions.
In your case, if I am guessing correctly, the first equation has a least common denominator of 6. You can start by multiplying both sides of the equation by 6 or -6. Either one will work. If the denominators in the second equation are 9 and 7, then multiply both sides by 63.
