Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Please help!

x+2(x+4)=1+3(x+2)
x+2x+8=1+3X+6
3x+8=3x+7
subratct 7 from each side & get
3x+1=3x

I'm sure the mistake is a very simple one, but I'm just not seeing it.

Hey there:

Your work is good. It shows that the original equation has no solutions.

You could have stopped at 3x + 8 = 3x + 7, since the sums with 3x cannot possibly be equal when adding 8 on one side and 7 on the other.
