Two quantities, p and q, are in direct proportion. The sum of the values of q when p=6 and p=11 is 51.
Find an equation connection p and q.

I have no idea how to solve this question, I am stuck after writing down p=kq, where k is a constant.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D
(the answer is q=3p btw, I have the answer key)

Thanks once again!

Thanks once again!

p = k * q

p[sub:xm4f53yq]1[/sub:xm4f53yq] = k * q[sub:xm4f53yq]1[/sub:xm4f53yq] ............................(1)

and

p[sub:xm4f53yq]2[/sub:xm4f53yq] = k * q[sub:xm4f53yq]2[/sub:xm4f53yq]............................(2)

add (1) and (2)

p[sub:xm4f53yq]1[/sub:xm4f53yq] + p[sub:xm4f53yq]2[/sub:xm4f53yq]= k * (q[sub:xm4f53yq]1[/sub:xm4f53yq] + q[sub:xm4f53yq]2[/sub:xm4f53yq])

6 + 11 = k * (51)

Now continue....
