Simplify: 5[7 + 4(x – 15) + 8x]

I am doing something wrong can you tell me what
I first remove the parentheses

then combine the like terms

so i tried 35 -60 +40x

what have I done wrong. I keep getting the wrong answer.

It's hard to say what you're doing wrong when you only provide your answer. Can you show how you arrived at your answer?

5[7 + 4(x – 15) + 8x]

= 5(7 + 4x - 60 + 8x)

=5( 12x - 53)

= 60x - 265

5(7 + 4 (x - 15) + 8x)

5(7 + 4(x) -15(4) + 8x)

5(7 + 4x - 60 +8x)

7(5) +4(5) +60(5) +8x(5)

35 + 20 +300 +40x

I knew I was wrong, so I stoped here.

5(7 + 4x - 60 +8x)

7(5) +4(5) +60(5) +8x(5) <-- You dropped an x and forgot about the minus in front of 60.

35 + 20 +300 +40x

I knew I was wrong, so I stoped here.
