When Mr. J raff took his two children to the zoo, their tickets cost $8.75. The next family in line was Ms. Ella Fant with Grandpa and the five Fant kids. Their tickets cost a total of $19.75. How much does the zoo charge for each adult and for each child?

Step #1 - Name things clearly and concisely.

How about:

A = Price of an Adult's Ticket
C = Price of a Child's Ticket.

You tell me what step #2 is.

Step #2 - Translate the problem statements using the definitions in #1.

Excellent!!!!!!

how do i get the answer? Do i solve for a or for C?

Yes. :)

There are at least half a dozen ways to proceed to solve that system of equations. Are you in a unit or problem section that requires a particular methodology?

Let's see how you solve it. Solve for either and see what happens.
