ok i'm really really confused on this algebra prblem here it is. i just can't figure out what an equation would be

a picture is 1in longer than it is wide. it is put into a frame that is 1/2in wide.if the area of the fram itself is 8in wide. how big is this picture.

I'm going to assume you mean 8 in square.
l=w+1
area of picture is lw
Total area is (l+1)(w+1)
area of frame is (l+1)(w+1)-lw
