1. 39+6.9

2. 11(5-1)+4
4at the 2 power -4

1. 39 + 6.9
Write 39 as 39.0 so both numbers will have the same number of decimal places. Line up the decimal points, and add:
39.0
+6.9
------

2. This is an "order of operations" problem. The acronym PEMDAS is how some folks remember the proper order:
P.....parentheses or other grouping symbols (and the fraction bar groups the terms of the numerator and denominator)
E.....exponents or roots
M....multiplications and D....divisions (these are done left to right)
A....addition and S......subtractions (these are done left to right)

Follow the order of operations to simplify the numerator and denominator separately. The numerator has something in parentheses, so you'll do that first when you're working on that part. The denominator has an exponent, so you'll do that first when working on that part.

When you have a single number in the numerator and a single number in the denominator, do the division represented by the fraction.

I hope this helps you.

Your divisor is 4 squared - 4: show these like this: 4^2 - 4
