First step: \(\displaystyle \mbox{ -12 < 3x - 4 < 12}\).

Have a go at ignoring the multiple choice and coming up with an answer independently.

After the first step, add 4 to each side of the inequality.

This is what we do when we add 4 to each side of the inequality:

\(\displaystyle \mbox{ -12 + 4 < 3x - 4 + 4 < 12 + 4}\)

Simplify, and then the next step would be to?

answer is d
Please reply showing the steps that you feel justify this choice of answer, as the help provided (above) would seem to disagree.

Thank you.

FYI- Ryansmith is a troll. I've dealt with him in the past. Just ignore him.

That seemed likely, but the original poster might not have been aware of that.

It didn't seem fair to me to leave the student perhaps thinking that "d" was the correct option choice, not knowing that "Ryansmith" was, in actuality, just "getting his rocks off" by trying to hurt complete strangers.
