4x+3y+(-5y)+3xy+y I am supposed to be combining like terms but i am really
confused when they have x, y, and xy together. Do you keep them separate?

Not sure what you're asked to do; anyhoo:
4x+3y+(-5y)+3xy+y
= 4x+3y-5y+3xy+y
= 4x-y+3xy

x(3y+4) - y
or
y(3x-1) + 4x
Best I can do fer you, ma'm.

Yes. x, y and xy are unlike.

treat x, y and xy as separate terms. Therefore, only add or subtract them when they are the same. Hope this helps.
