The Heath family saved D dollars for vacation expenses. Their plan was to use the money as follows: 1/4 for food, 1/5 for transportation,2/5 for hotels, and the remaining $750 for unforseen expenses. How much money did the Heath family save for vacation?
A) 1,100 B) 560 C) 5,600 D) 5000

and what is the solution to 9r=5r-2(2+3r)?
A) r= -4 B) r= -2/5 C) r= -1/2 D) r= -2

Thanks so much for anyones help! I am a returning algebra student and need this broken down!!!

A) 1,100 B) 560 C) 5,600 D) 5000

1/4 + 1/5 + 2/5 = 5/20 + 4/20 + 8/20 = 17/20

So left for unforseen expenses is 20/20 - 17/20 = 3/20;
since 3/20 = 750
then 1/20 = 750/3 = 250;
so 20/20 = 250 * 20 = 5000
OK?

and what is the solution to 9r=5r-2(2+3r)?
A) r= -4 B) r= -2/5 C) r= -1/2 D) r= -2

-2(2 + 3r) = -4 - 6r :multiply what's inside the brackets by what's outside
So equation becomes:
9r = 5r - 4 - 6r
9r = - 4 - r
10r = -4
5r = -2
r = -2/5
OK?

Add all the fractions.
Subtract the total from 1.
That fraction times the savings = 750

Multiply -2*(2+3r) = -4-6r then gather like terms.
