(2 + x)(-4x)=0, what is the sum of all the possible values of x?
Two possible values of x are 0 and -2. These are the only possible values, and their the sum is \(\displaystyle 0+(-2)=-2.\)

thanks matt!!!

Could you help with this other problem I have?

I know the answer is 12.5%. I just don't understand the steps involved. Here is the equation: .15 = x/100 (1.20)

please help me with the steps...

sry, i read the same question on some other site, and it said positive values of x, i just didn't read yours

0.15 = x/100 (1.20)
x is divided by 100, so multiply both sides of the equation by 100
15 = x*1.2
x is multiplied by 1.2, so divide both sides of the equation by 1.2
12.5 = x

You should post new questions as new posts. We look first at unanswered posts. The thread has been answered so the new question is easily overlooked.

x is = 12.5 not 12.5%

Make your life easier; type those like this: .15 = 1.2x / 100;
now you can easily "see" that 1.2x = .15 * 100 = 15
