PLZ HELP 3m-4n=-14
3m=2n=-2

my answer.... I HAVE NO IDEA SO PLZ ANSWER AND EXPLAIN god bless u

I assume you meant to write:

eq1. 3m-4n=-14
eq2. 3m-2n=-2

This is a system of equations, which means that m and n have the same values in both equations. To eliminate one of the variables, you can solve eq1 for either m or n, and then plug that value into eq2.

You can also solve with with the addition/subtraction method. I suggest you read your book if you are confused by this.

Here is your answer.

I can't believe I can actually help someone with algebra! This is what you need to do.

3m - 4n = -14

First you need to put a + sign in front of the -4n.

3m + -4n = -14

Next you need to figure out what m and n stand for. They are hidden numbers. The signs are very important. -2 and 2 are your hidden numbers. So what you are going to do is substitute those numbers in for the letters, like this.

(3-2) + (-42) = -14

Now remember you are multiplying the numbers in the parenthesis.

(3-2) + -42) = -14

-6 + -8 = -14

The most important thing is figuring out which hidden numbers times the numbers you currently have will equal your answer and using the correct signs. Hope this helps.

Nooooo, Christina; there are 2 equations; other one is:
3m-2n=-2
3(-2) - 2(2) = -6 - 4 = -10; that's not -2

You need to find a solution that fits BOTH equations.

See daon's post.
Here's a way to do it:
Code:
-3m + 4n = 14 : eq 1 multiplied by -1
 3m - 2n = -2 : eq 2

Add them together:
      2n = 12
       n = 12/2 = 6
I'll let you calculate m

I didn't know there were 2 equations. :p The answer to the second equation would be -2 and -2 if it were by itself.

True, BUT there are other solutions:
m=-4 and n=-5
m=0 and n=1
m=2 and n=4
m=4 and n=7
and many more...to infinity!

REMEMBER: when there are TWO unknowns, you need TWO equations.
