how to solve and check it
5x+8-4x=7

10x+4=9x

To solve, the first step is to simplify by adding like terms. Then add the same quantity to both sides of the equation, so that the variable term is on one side and the constant is on the other. Then divide or multiply the same quantity to both sides to get the variable by itself.

Example: 4m - 7 + 2m = 13
1) add like terms on the left: 6m - 7 = 13
2) add 7 to both sides + 7 +7
6m = 20
3) divide by 6 6m/6 = 20/6
4) m = 20/6 = 10/3

Check: put 10/3 in place of m in the first equation:
4(10/3) - 7 + 2(10/3) = 13
40/3 - 7 + 20/3 = 13
+7 + 7
60/3 = 20
20 = 20
