Solve -8d-5 less than or greater to 2d-3

I did the +5 on each side of the equation..then I divided 2d by -8d...so I think the answer is d is greater than or equal to -5?

Is this is "less than" inequality, or a "greater than" one? (You've got both in the same statement.)

If I understand you correctly (and using an "equals" sign to stand in for the unknown inequality sign, for the time being), you have done the following:

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \large{-8d\,-\,5\,=\,2d\,-\,3}\)

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \large{-8d\,-\,5\,+\,5\,=\,2d\,-\,3\,+\,5}\)

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \large{-8d\,=\,2d\,+\,2}\)

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \large{\frac{-8d}{-8d}\,=\,\frac{2d\,+\,2}{-8d}}\)

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \large{1\,=\,\frac{2d}{-8d}\,+\,\frac{2}{-8d}}\)

. . . . .\(\displaystyle \large{1\,=\,-\frac{1}{4}\,-\,\frac{1}{4d}}\)

Is this a correct interpretation of what you have done thus far?

Thank you.

Eliz.
