Bill, a novice dart thrower, decides to throw darts at his rectangular bulletin board which is 24cm by 36cm and surrounded by a frame 4cm wide. Each dart hits the bulletin board or the frame.

a. How many square centimeters are in the sample space?
b. How many square centimeters are in the event space, "the dart hits the frame?"
c. Assuming Bill is unskilled at darts, what is the probabilty that a given dart hits the frame?
d. What is the probability that a given dart hits the builliten board?

a) The area of a rectangle is found by multiplying the length by the width.

b) Subtract the area of the board from the total area found in (a).

c) What is meant by "assume that he is unskilled"? Does this mean we should assume that there is no weighting, that his aim should be regarded as random, so the probabilities are due only to the areas?

d) Same question as for (c).
