How do I solve this equation I have been having a problem with it

Y=3.2 - 0.2Y I need to solve this equation and show my work.

the answer I came up with was3.0
 
You didn't say what you were supposed to do with that equation.

The answer to any "solving" problem may be checked by plugging it back into the original exercise:

. . . . .y = 3.2 - 0.2y

. . . . .[3] ?=? 3.2 - 0.2[3]

. . . . .3 ?=? 3.2 - 0.6

. . . . .3 ?=? 2.6

Since 3 does not equal 2.6, your solution is invalid. However, since you did not show your work, I'm afraid we cannot help you find your error.

Multiply your equation by 10:
10Y = 32 - 2Y : gets rid of decimal points; ain't that nice :wink:
Divide by 2:
5Y = 16 - Y : wow; how cute! Now can you finish that ?
