Is 1st term -(x^3) or (-x)^3 ?

Well, let's see.....

Substitute -2 for x:
f(x) = -x<SUP>3</SUP> + x<SUP>2</SUP> + x
f(-2) = -(-2)<SUP>3</SUP> + (-2)<SUP>2</SUP> + (-2)

Now, do the arithmetic. Remember to follow the order of operations; do the powers first:
f(-2) = -(-8) + 4 + (-2)

Next, find the value of -(-8):
f(-2) = 8 + 4 + (-2)

And finish by doing the additions......
f(-2) = 10
