i don't get how to divide a trinomial that cannot be factored by a binomial at all, can someone please explain it to me!

Did you learn long division of numbers? It is just the same thing, only, instead of places that are powers of 10, you have powers of some variable.

i need to understand this

okay here is what i don't get, here is how they went through an example problem in my math book:
Code:
          k-3
3k+2/3k^ -7k-6
    (-)3k^+2k
                   -9k-6
               (-)-9k-6
                              0
i don't get what happens to the 7k, like where do u use it? :!: [/u]

*sorry, all those underlined things are supposed to be moved over all the way, i guess it didn't work though... i don't know how to fix it, sorry im new at this...

I cleaned it up enough to understand what it ws you were doing.

-7k - 2k = -9k

You have it right there. Why are you not seeing it?

i kind of get it

i get that now, but now what i don't get is why you would (-)+2 frm -7 when you haven't used -7 yet in the problem... i don't know i am just very confused on this subject, and i know it's probably very obvious but i just don't understand the logic.

Try long division on 376 divided by 5; perhaps that'll help you "see" it...
