Ok guys I am really rusty now- Its been over 10 years I haven't done math really need the hlep.

Question 1: The length of a rectangl is 4 times its width. If the area is 144cm2 (thats square), find its perimeter?

Question 2: Find 2 consective odd intergers whose sum is 56.?

Re: Problems

25 posts and you have not learned that the most effective post is the post that SHOWS WORK. You have only typed the problem statements. Please do better than that.

For the rectangle, you need only

1) Length * Width = Area
2) 2*Length + 2*Width = Perimeter.

Draw a picture and look at it. You should see it.

For the odd integers, you need only a name for the odd integers. Write down a definition and show us what you get.

What do you mean about your statement?

the 2 odd intergers are 53 and 3. Is this correct?

I am still working on the perimeter

Re: Problems

53 and 3 are not consecutive odd integers.

as far as the perimeter, let's see how you arrived at the value 72.

Re: Problems

no, the perimeter is not 36, w[sup:wme6ykz7]2[/sup:wme6ykz7] is 36.

are you going to continue this guessing game?

I am trying to figure it out but not sue what i am doing but i am really trying.
ok so if

p=2l + 36

Re: Problems

length is four times the width ...

this tells you that L = 4W

area is 144 cm[sup:3r4zhovu]2[/sup:3r4zhovu] ...

this tell you that length times width = 144, or LW = 144

substitute 4W for L in the area equation ...

4W(W) = 144
4W[sup:3r4zhovu]2[/sup:3r4zhovu] = 144
W[sup:3r4zhovu]2[/sup:3r4zhovu] = 36
W = 6

now you know what W is, what is the value of L ?

once you find out, substitute those values into the perimeter equation, P = 2(L + W)

Ok I am rusty at this but thanks

L=24

so therefore P= 2(24+6)
P= 60

Re: Problems

let x = the first odd integer
then x+2 = the next consecutive odd integer

the sum is 56 ... set up an equation and solve for x, then determine x+2.

Got 28 & 30

Re: Problems

1) 28 + 30 = 58 NOT 56.
2) Both 28 and 30 are EVEN not ODD.
3) You're still just guessing.

Write clear definitions so you never are confused.
Write complete equations so everyone can understand.
Write every step so you can retrace
Check your results against the ORIGINAL problem statement.

n+(n+2)=56
n+n+2+56
2n+2-2=56-2
2n=54
n=27, 28

I hope this is correct now

Re: Problems

n = 27

n+2 = ?

... two consecutive odd integers, remember?

You have forgotten this: "Write clear definitions so you never are confused."

If you had this staring at you on the page:

n = the lesser of my two odd integers
n + 2 = the greater of my two odd integers

I am almost certain you would not have made that mistake.

Write Clear Definitions.

sorry was an wrrot N+2 should = 29

typo error.

Thanks you all for the help
