Hello,

Find an equation for the surface consisting of all points that are equidistant from the
point (-10,0,0) and the plane x=10.

I'm not sure where to begin with this problem. Any help is appreciated!
 
The distance formula in two dimensions is sqrt[ (x[sub:pqjdd8u8]1[/sub:pqjdd8u8] - x[sub:pqjdd8u8]2[/sub:pqjdd8u8])[sup:pqjdd8u8]2[/sup:pqjdd8u8] + (y[sub:pqjdd8u8]1[/sub:pqjdd8u8] - y[sub:pqjdd8u8]2[/sub:pqjdd8u8])[sup:pqjdd8u8]2[/sup:pqjdd8u8] ]. What is the distance formula for three dimensions?

One part of measureing the distance to a line is by dropping a perpendicular to (or from) that line. How does one measure distance from (or to) a plane?
