I get just so far before becoming confused.

2 [ 5 - ( - 3 ) ] - 2 ( - 3 - 4 )
2 [ 5 + 3 ) - 2 ( - 7 )
2 ( 8 ) - 2 ???

Minus 2 x minus 7 (or is it a plus 7 ?)
I can't be certain, and I have to be!

Thank you.

To learn, in general, how to simplify with parentheses, try here. Then, working from the inside out:

. . . . .2[5 - (-3)] - 2(-3 - 4)

. . . . .2[5 + 3] - 2(-3 + (-4))

. . . . .2[8] + (-2)(-7)

. . . . .16 + 14

I'm sure you can take it from there.
