1 + t = a/b

im more than alittle confused on how to do this-i figure i need to get b alone

but im not sure how to do this-would i multiple but sides by 1/a?

Since you are solving for b, and since b is in the denominator of the fraction, I think I'd multiply both sides by b:

b(1 + t) = b(a/b)

b(1 + t) = a

Now...do you see that "b" has been multiplied by (1 + t)? How would you get just b?

ok that makes sooooo much more sence

i would then divide both sides by ( 1 + t ) and get b = a/ 1 + t

Yes, but be careful about using grouping symbols to make CLEAR what is in the denominator of the fraction:

b = a / (1 + t)
