The number N of worldwide airline passengers in millions from 1950 to 2000 is approximated by
N= 0.68y squared + 3.8y + 24
Where y = 0 corresponds to 1950, y = 1 to 1951, and so on until y = 50 corresponds until 2000.
a) Estimate the number of airline passengers in 1970.
b) Use a table of values to estimate the year in which the number of airline passengers reached 544 million.

The symbol y represents the number of years after 1950.

So, the first step for part (a) is to determine the value of y for 1970. How many years after 1950 is 1970?

Next, use this value of y in the given formula to calculate the value of N.
