So I've gotten this problem graded as incorrect more than three times. Ihave one more attempt, and would love any help on it! I think its the odd numbers that is throwing me off, because I can't seem to get it. THis is my most recent attempt, as well as the problem statement.HWredo copy.jpg

For the addition, can't you just construct it? A sum of an odd number of odd whole numbers is odd...

For a > 0, a + (a+2) + (a+4) + (a+(n-1)*2) -- There. An odd number of odd Whole Numbers

Then n(a) + 2 + 4 + ... + (n-1)*2 -- Oh, well that's pretty silly. Everything but "n(a)" clearly is EVEN.

What about n(a)? Prove it! Remember, both n and a are odd!

WHat did I do incorrectly in my proof then? I understand that, and was thinking that was what I did.

If you actually accomplished the proof, no one should care how you approached it. Induction is fine, if it works. Direct construction is fine, if it works.
