1. ## grid reference problem

A map usesgrid references for positions. A grid reference for a point of 987654 means the
point is 987 m East and 654 m North of the fixed referencepoint.
A bridge FG crosses a river.
The length of the bridge is 24 m.
Angle GFH is 36˚.
The grid reference for F is 163871.

Find the grid reference for the end of the bridge at G.

Find the grid reference for the end of the bridge at G.
Assume:

<GFH = Θ

then

FH = FG * cos(Θ)....... and continue......

Please share your work with us, indicating exactly where you are stuck - so that we may know where to begin to help you.

What do you need? Where are you stuck? What have you tried, thus far?

FH = 24cos 36 = 19.4
GH = 24sin 36 = 14.1

Grid reference for F is 163871
So 163 + 19.4 = 182.2 so I take the easting as 182
871 + 14.1 = 885.1 so I take the northing as 885
I rounded down in both cases

Therefore Grid reference = 182885

Looks good to me.
