can any one solve this problem for x

5(x-1)-2(x+3)-2x=-8

Simplyfy Left-hand-side, using distributive property of multiplication and continue....

Your equation can be rewritten this way:
2x - 8 = 5(x - 1) - 2(x + 3)

Do you "see" why?
If not, better have a talk with your teacher...
I don't believe that helps at all. To "solve for x" you want all "x"s on the same side of the equation which is true before changing the equation like that.
