a). Find the capsize screening value for the Tartan 4100, which has a displacement of 23,245 pounds and beam of 13.5 feet.

b). Solve this formula for d.

Show us your work!

You will have to define "capsize screening value." I expect we will have to know more about the shape of the boats bottom. From the given numbers, if you know the weight of a cubic foor of water, you can convert the displacement to cubic feet. Dividing volume by the beam would tell you an area, but without knowing the shape that area doesn't mean anything.

Delois, is this the given formula?

C = 4b / d^(1/3)

where C is capsize screening value

b is beam footage

d is displacement weight

For part a), did you try substituting the given values into your formula and using a scientific calculator?

Please confirm the formula, and tell us where you are stuck.:cool:
