Hi there…because of my work schedule I'm having to take intermediate algebra online, so I'm kinda on my own, Its been about 3 years since my last algebra class so I'm solo rusty.

My first homework problem is
4|y+3| 16=0

asking to put in standard form and is there solution.

I don't even know how to start on this…any suggestions or any help would be greatly appreciated

Are you sure it wasn't "4|y+ 3|-16= 0" or "4|y+ 3|+ 16= 0"? Having just that "16" after the absolute value doesn't make sense.

Well, there is clearly something missing there! I would have to say that it must have been intended to be \(\displaystyle 4|x+ 3|- 16= 0\) because \(\displaystyle 4|x+ 3|+ 16= 0\) has NO solution. Do you see why?
