The question doesn't make sense. Two fractions cannot be equal to 1 and one of them be larger than the other.

Try something closer to:

"If the sum of two fractions equals 1, and one fraction is 3/8 larger than the other, what are the fractions?"

Solution

Nephew question........ If 2 fractions equal 1, and 1 fraction is 3/8 larger than the other

Here we go:

Other fraction = x
One fraction = x + 3/8

From the equation: x + x + 3/8 = 1
2x + 3/8 = 1
2x = 1 - 3/8
2x = 1*8/8 - 3/8
2x = 8/8 - 3/8
2x = 5/8
x = 5/8 * 1/2
x = 5 / 16

Hope it helps
