Hi,

i know this is pretty basic but could someone please talk me through how to solve the below:

50/(100*12)*365 = 15.2

If i didn't know either 100 or 50, how would i go about rearranging the formula? could someone please talk me through both scenarios?

Thanks

just to confirm i do know the answer 15.2*(100*12)/365 = 50.

First let's multiply by 12 and then divide by 365
\(\displaystyle \frac{12}{365}\frac{50 * 365}{ 100 * 12} = \frac{50}{100} = \frac{12 * 15.2}{365} = a\) ~ 0.4997260273972603
Actually a is supposed to be 0.5 but round off has creeped in. We will use 0.5.

Now, since we really don't know 50 nor 100, suppose we replace 50 by y and 100 by x, then the equation becomes
\(\displaystyle \frac{y}{x} = a\)
or
y = a x
Now you choose an x (say 100), multiply it by a to get y (=50). Or, we could write it as
x = y/a
and you can choose y (say 50) and divide it by a to get x (=100). Notice in this latter case, a can't be zero.
