Reverse Ellipse into Cone.

Hello,

I have an ellipse and I would like to calculate the proportions of the cone that it could have been sliced from (I can't work out if an ellipse of an exact proportion can be cut from many cones at different angles or just one cone at one angle.). I'm an architect and I'm working mainly in AutoCAD and have mainly been trying to find a solution using drawing board/ geometry. I'd love it if there were a method of the 'constructing' an elevation of the cone from the ellipse, but a mathmatical/numeric solution would still be very welcome, (as I'm really stuck)

Thanks for the reply, but the link just takes me to a google page.

Is there a site that does have a blackboard? Or could I trouble you for a scribble made in paint? I think I'm on the cusp of working it out, so just a hint might make the difference.
