Thank you before.

when I saw (and felt), this question is easy. But alas, for almost a week, it drove me crazy.

This is it...

Clue:
X is the base lowest number and not negative.
Y is the highest number and not negative.

5% within X to Y, the numbers from 1440 to 1504.

17% is from X until 1440.

The rest 72% is from 1504 until Y.

Please find the numbers of X and Y.

----- Thank you in advance.

Are X and Y integers?

No more additional expression was included.

No matter how many times I tried to get the X, it always fell for the negative outcome.

Ok, let's assume they are not integers, can we get a bit closer good approach?
Hence, just look at those percentages, might be a low chance for integers only.

Thank you.

Hi Khan. Thanks for the help.

No, they are not integer numbers. But it prohibits for negative outcome.

Okay, so I'm assuming by "base lowest number" you mean that "There are two numbers, X and Y, and X is the smaller of the two." But I don't know what any of the rest means. It almost looks like this exercise was translated from another language. Please either post the original version in its native language, or have someone help you post a better translation. We cannot provide any help on the problem if we don't even understand what it's asking. Thank you.

Yes, ksdhart, you are right. At some points, a translation could become a nightmare.

"5% within X to Y, the numbers from 1440 to 1504.

17% is from X until 1440.

I found it.

By using the Y-axis imaginary, I got that the X = 1222.4 and the Y= 2425.6

How I solved:

-- The only key I have, the percentage range from 1504 to 1440, the 5%.
That means 1% = 12.8.

Just multiply 1% with another percentage.
Optionally, we may also get the imaginary zero base = 1145.6

If we pin them on Y-axis:

2425.6 = Y

1504

1440

1222.4 = X

1145 (optional).

-------- Thank you for your time and good response.
