If the month's payment is 1500.00 with the outstanding balance of the account at 150000.00, how would I calculate the interest paid and amount applied to principal (amount that goes to reducing the debt) if the interest rate of the mortgage loan is 6.25%?

brother here is your answer
loan amount is 150,000
I= 6.25%
Monthly payment is 1,500
solution
150,000 x 6.25% = 9,375 annual interest now just divide it by 12 . 9,375/12 = 781.25 per month interest

Monthly payment = 1,500
interest P.M= 781.25
principal = 718.75 (1,500-781.25)

Actually, if the original exercise is about a mortgage, then your "answer" is very incorrect. Try Google-ing mortgages and interest; you will quickly learn that the amount of interest in a given month's payment varies, with interest being heavily "front-loaded" on the loan.

To the original poster: Please provide the full text of the exercise (including whatever came before "If the month's payment..."), all formulas or algorithms you feel may be relevant, and a clear listing of your thoughts and efforts so far. Once we know what's going on, we can try to help you toward the correct solution. Thank you! ;)
