I do not understand how functions and linear equations are similar. I know how they are different but am having difficulty understanding why they are alike?

linear equations (like f(x) = mx + b) are just part of function - or a type of function.

Functions can be linear or non-linear (e.g. f(x) = Ax[sup:1u1iac75]2[/sup:1u1iac75] + Bx + C).
