I need help with a homework problem. its:

t-5x=4x

I have to solve for x.

I did:

t-5x+5=4x+5
t-5(t/9)=4(t/9)

Every time I solve it I come out to -4t/9=4t/9 it doesn't check please help me I have to post by midnight.

Thanks.

Hi.

t - 5x = 4x

Isolate x on the other side of the t

t - 5x + 5x = 4x + 5x

simplify both sides

t = 9x

divide both sides by 9 to get x by itself

x = t/9

now CHECK :) Substitute (t/9) for x in your first equation. When simplified, both sides should balance. t - 5(t/9) = 4(t/9)

Cheers!
