Natural Numbers in the army

Good morning guys
I'm currently in the army. Today I did some math with one of our sergants but I'm unable to solve her last question. I sadly need to leave for a exercise but is anyone able to solve this?
(She only told me it was about natural numbers)

It's already solved! They found a number r that fits the requirement.

You just have to show that r, which has been chosen as the average of p and q, is in fact between p and q, and is a rational number.

(This is not about natural numbers (Z), but rational numbers (Q).

I didn't know the army was this much fun!
