If you need help to get you started, then my immediate thought was:- I need the area of a triangle. I know the base of each triangle is (3x+1), so what's the height? Hint: You should be able to use the (9x-3) dimension that's on the diagram. Please post back with your answer/ work.

Looks like you cannot even start solving the problem. Then we have to start with definitions.

Do you know the geometrical definition of a square?

Do you know the geometrical definition of a isosceles right-angled-triangle??

If you know, please tell us about those definitions (according to your textbook/classnotes/google)
