Rationals and irrationals: identifying which is which

I dont know what an irrational or a rational is when dealing with sqare roots. Please help!!

Example: Identify each as rational or irrational.

1. sqrt of 16

2. 4/5

3. -8

A rational number is any number that can be expressed as a ratio of integers.
A example is .34, which can be expressed as 34/100 a rational number

A irrational number can not be expressed as a ratio of integers
A example is square root of 2 , or pi
