Slope

The steepness of a line. It is the change in y divided by the change in x, which basically tells you how much the line goes up for every amount it goes over. The slope of a line is constant over that whole line, but the slope of a curve is constantly changing. You must take the derivative of a curve to find its exact slope at a point of interest.
