I have to calculate a correlation and say if it's significant or not. So I calculated the correlation using excel and it's 0,754651674 (R). I did the square of that (R)² = 0,569499149 so it's 57% wich means it's a strong connection.

R= 0,754651674 R square= 0,569499149 -> verklaarde variantie (explained variance?) 57% -> sterk kracht verband (strong connection?)
Test statistic t = r/√1-r²/n-2 0,75/√1-(0.75)²/40-2 = 6.90

Hoe sportief = how sporty / motivatie ouders = motivation parents

Sorry for any English mistakes but it's hard to translate math stuff.

So I don't know what to do with my outcome of my t-test? (6,90) doesn't seem right? I'm supposed to say if it's significant or not but I have no idea what to do.

57% is strong?

Please show your intermediate results.

40 - 2 = 38

1 - r^2 = 1 - 0.569497 = 0.430503

Use parentheses to clarify intent. 1 - r^2 / n - 2 MEANS \(\displaystyle 1 - \dfrac{r^{2}}{n} - 2\) in most textbooks I have seen.

(1 - r^2)/(n-2) = 0.430503 / 38 = 0.011329

sqrt(0.011329) = 0.106438

r / sqrt(0.11329) = 0.75465 / 0.106438 = 7.09

I used more decimal places. Worry more about your notation than your language. You do not need so much spoken language if you can write clear notation.

In particular, WRITE DOWN everything. You cannot follow to find errors if you have written nothing.
