The value of a number of dimes and quarters is $1.45. If the quarters were replace by nickels, the value would be $0.85. How many dimes and quarters are there?

What have you done, so far? Where are you stuck?

What symbols did you pick, to represent the numbers of dimes and quarters?

For each quarter that is replaced by a nickel, how much value is lost? (Hint: Subtract.)

How much value, in total, has been lost? (Hint: Subtract.)

So how many replacements were made? (Hint: Divide.)

Then how many quarters were there?

What is the value of this number of quarters? (Hint: Multiply.)

What then is the value of the dimes? (Hint: Subtract.)

Then how many dimes were there? (Hint: Divide.)

If you get stuck, please reply showing your work and reasoning so far. Thank you! ;)
