Phew...ok...my final is tomorrow...I just need someone to show me the answer to this one last problem and walk me through the steps. Find the distance between the two points: (3/2, - 1/2), (2,1)

The negatives are confusing me.

What negatives? Square things and the all go away.

Subtract the x-values: 3/2 - 2 = 3/2 - 4/2 = -1/2
Square that: (-1/2)^2 = 1/4

Subtract the y-values: 1/2 - 1 = 1/2 - 2/2 = -1/2
Square that: (-1/2)^2 = 1/4

Add them up: 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2

Find the square root: sqrt(1/2) = ½*sqrt(2)

Just for fun, let's do t the other way:

Subtract the x-values: 2 - 3/2 = 4/2 - 3/2 = 1/2
Square that: (1/2)^2 = 1/4

Subtract the y-values: 1 - 1/2 = 2/2 - 1/2 = 1/2
Square that: (1/2)^2 = 1/4

Add them up: 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2

Find the square root: sqrt(1/2) = ½*sqrt(2)

One step at a time. Don't panic.
