Angela and Kenya were trying to figure out how many cupboard handles to buy in order to remodel the kitchen. The new cupboards would only need 50% as many handles as the old ones. Show the proportions and answer the questions below.

a) If 38 handles were needed for all of the new cupboards, how many handles were on the original cupboards?

b) The cost of each new handle was the saema as the cost of each original handle. If the original handles cost a total of $338, what will be the cost of the new handles?

c) When they got to the hardware store, they found the handles 25% off. How many much will it cost them to purchase the new cupboard handles?

original / new = 2/1

a)
let new equal 38
find original
original / 38 = 2/1 multiply both sides by 38
original = 76 answer

b)
original 76 handles cost $338
how mush did each cost ?
cost per handle = $338/76
cost for 38 handles = 38 [ $338/76]
cost for 38 handles = $338/2
cost for 38 handles = $169 answer

c)
reduce cost by 25% or cost = $169 [1-.25]
25%=.25 decimal
cost = $169[.75]
cost = $126.75 answer
