I need help solving this problem.

Change y = x - 3 so that the graph of the new equation has a steeper, negative slope and the same y-intercept.

First find the slope of the line you're given.

Then decide how you need to change the slope to make it steeper and negative.

Then come up with a new slope.

Then use y = mx + b to come up with a new equation with that slope and the same y-intercept as the original equation.

The slope of y= mx + b
is m and the y intercept is when x=0. In the original equation m = 1. The bigger m is, the steeper the slope.

That's one good one. The 3 of -3x is bigger than one so the sloe is steeper. The - says it is down. The other -3 says the intercept is the same. Just what you wanted!
